Introducing KSUA's new Station Engineer Benny Acquah

My name is Benedicta Acquah, but most people call me Benny. I was born and raised in Ghana which is in West Africa. Growing, music and dance were part of our everyday life. We have different kinds of music and dances that go along with it. I personally grew up listening to Hiplife( also called Afrobeat) and Gospel music. For instance Contemporary Music this is a kind of music in Ghana that is composed of “Highlife and Hiplife '' musical style as well as the newer and wildly popular dances such as Azonto, Alkayeeda, Shaku, Pilol, Kupe and more.

Hiplife involves a combination of elements from the West Africa musical especially between Ghana and Nigeria. This is a mixture of traditional jazz, highlife, funk, and chanted vocals coined with groovy and vocal styles, popularized in Africa in the 1970s. This was originally named  by Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Fela Kuti. He literally invented the popular music genre name Afrobeat in Accra, which is the capital of Ghana in 1968. In this model world is known to be music that is combined with beats that hyper younger people and it is the most popular style of music, Just the beat only is a huge lead. Some popular artists include Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, the late Ebong Reigns,Kidi,R2 Bee,Fuse ODG, EL, Kuami Eugene, King Promise and the recognized father of Hiplife Reggie Rockstone I love listening to such music because it really hyper my mood, changes my facial expression, has meaningful and influential lyrics.

Michael Jackson

Though this song was released in 1992, by the late Michael Jackson on his eighth studio album Dangerous. He dedicated this song to his charity organization which had the same name as his song. It is named “Heal the world foundation” This song goes

“Heal the world

Make it a better place

For You and For ME

And the entire human race

There are people dying

If you care enough

For the living

Make a better place

For you and For me”

We all have heard or seen a lot of the pain the world itself is going through, such as people dying, shootings, war, fire, disease outbreaks and etc. This is the time for us to come together as one and help prevent the spreading of the epidemic we are facing. The world is in our hands and in order for us to make it a better place, we must work together. Listening to Michael Jackson's music has shown me a lot about the world. His song gives me more encouragement and highlight my mood about the world. Michael Jackson himself was a great influence not only in the United States, but also around the world. He was a humanitarian who supported organization and a huge advocate for children.

This Generations Musician

This generation has a different kind of taste when it comes to music, everyone wants to play hard to get, no one wants to show their emotion, Music has always had a big impact in young people’s lives and so do their stars behind their favorite songs. In this model world social media rises and alternate for young artists to climb and then later reach their goals by influencing younger people such as: Lizzo with her message of self-love is making body-positive, LGBTQ+ icon and is a symbol for this generation that is all about breaking down stereotypes. Beyonce who he takes on more social issues such as police brutality. Cardi B who stands for female empowerment, working hard for yourself, and not relying on others for your success. XXXtentacion didn't really influence people, but his music alone is full of trauma, inflicted and endured to the point that this modern generation is attached to. A few other artists that I like to listen to are Drake, Ed, Sheeran, BTS, and Ariana Grande.
