What songs in your library have you listened to the most?
That is the same question I’ve been asking myself the last few weeks. “What is my most listened to song? What would this look like compared to my other songs?” I’ve been thinking about my music library more, and recently, that’s been amplified by having to sift through it to find more playlist music.
I made three different playlists, separated by genre. The songs in each playlist are sorted generally from top to bottom, the most listened to the least listened. I’ll show the Top 10s from each category, too, with their respective play counts. If you’re curious how I found the play count for each song, I use Google Play Music as my preferred streaming service, and on the desktop/web version, it shows the play count by each song. I don’t think this is a feature on Spotify, unfortunately.
This is the playlist I made for my Lo-Fi/Indie music.
This is the playlist made for my Hip-Hop/Rap music.
This is the playlist I made for my Alternative playlist.
Here are some breakdowns:
I found it interesting how some of the songs I would consider my favorites were listened to less than some other songs I almost forgot about. For example, the inclusion of artists like Billy Marchiafava and Twenty One Pilots. I stand by Vessel (2013) by Twenty One Pilots is a great record, but I haven’t listened to it in any of my playlists in 5+ years. Billy Marchiafava isn’t a regular listen anymore either. I can’t say he’s bad, haha, but he has a specific type of vibe not meant for a lot of people. As for other artists, like Radiohead, $uicideboy$, and Nirvana, I didn’t expect these songs to be my most listened to, especially considering other songs and albums that the artists have. Overall, it’s an interesting look into different types of music and seemingly random songs I’ve listened to (and loved) over the years.
Soon, I’ll release a set of playlists that reflect more accurately my favorites in each respective genre. I’ll be interested in what you guys will think about them, so send in some feedback! I’ll probably see more song requests and general feedback if you send e-mails to racooper3@alaska.edu.
And hey, don’t miss my new show airing on KSUA right now! It’s called Untitled 01, and it’s just a chill little music show I put together every week. Artists range from Indie Rock groups like Post Animal and Peach Pit, Indie Pop groups like Wallows and Palehound, Rap groups like City Morgue and Joey Bada$$, and more. Every Monday from 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM, can’t miss it! Anyway, hope you have a great week! :)
