Special Collab: The Power of Music Sharing: An inside look at radio show collaborations at KSUA
The act of sharing music is a unique experience. Music elicits emotions, motivates fun and dancing, and connects people. To foster the sharing of music, we held two collaborations at KSUA this Spring. This included guest appearances by each other on Julia’s Cheese on Air show and Evan’s Cover to Cover show.
Wednesday, February 26th, 2025 - Cheese on Air
Host: Julia Cheesman
This playlist encompassed numerous genres of music by artists from near and far. We explored Alaska bands as well as bands from elsewhere. I (Julia) have had several guests on my radio show before, and quite enjoy this collaborative aspect of radio. Getting to discuss and listen to music with another individual who is passionate about music is a nourishing experience. For this show, Evan and I brought together artists we liked while mixing generations, as I do each week on Cheese on Air. Artists included:
Greta Van Fleet
Geese
Bad Bad Hats
DISPATCH
SunDog
Mdou Moctar
Vulfpeck
Shakey Graves
Monday, March 3rd, 2025 - Cover to Cover
Host: Evan Joyce
When we did our collab on Julia’s show, we realized that: 1) Evan didn’t know enough about Beyonce and 2) Beyonce songs would make a great theme for the next collab! While on my show Cover to Cover I usually do an album spotlight, changing it up like this was pretty fun. Albums are great because of the journey that a lot of albums are set up to provide, but listening to back to back greatest hits is really euphoric. We tried to curate a playlist that had a wide variety of Beyonce songs from Destiny's Child through to the Cowboy Cater eras. Thanks to Julia for helping educate me on my Beyonce hits! Some of these included:
Say My Name - Destiny’s Child
Survivor - Destiny’s Child
LEVII’S JEANS- Beyonce, Post Malone
Freedom - Beyonce, Kendrik Lamar
CUFF IT - Beyonce
Blue - Beyonce, Blue Ivy
If I Were a Boy - Beyonce
