New album just out (11 Oct 2024) by David Flaxman - Truth on the Way Down
Alternative Rock with, as Flaxman describes the opening track, “dreamy, warm, shimmering, melancholic hymn / hallucination of a bright life that lies just through the next door” vibes.
Flaxman wrote all the songs and lyrics and plays all the instruments - guitars (rhythm, lead) programmed the drums, played live drums, bass, synths and vocals. The music is many-layered with ample audio effects capturing a joyous homebrew of feelings-rich alternative rock with impeccable production. He descibed the evolution of the music as “based on two years of challenge and change, joys and sorrows, hard good-byes, but also laughter and love and new inspiring adventures.”
I really enjoyed these tracks, especially the first “Legends and Lore.” I found it simultaneously nostalgic and optimistic with wonderfully dreamy synths and entrancing downtempo rhythm guitar. Flaxman’s vocals are compelling and heartfelt. A brief guitar solo left me wanting to hear an extended version but perhaps less is more? I definitely recommend giving this a listen.
Legends and Lore
Under the cover
A starless night
The warmth of shadows
Holding you tight
Just disappear
No one will know
Where you go
You saw a vision
Opened a door
Hillsides of flowers
Legends and Lore
Just disappear
No one will know
Flaxman added in his announcement of the album “I’m on an unexpected journey but never fear, I’m blessed and happy in case you hear a song that makes you think otherwise!”
