Review of show 'Diggin' in the Crates'

This is a weekly show by a DJ in Calgary, Alberta, Sideshow Sid. I began listening to his former show, The Musiquarium, since about 2005 and when that show ended I feared for a bleak funkless future. However, Sid returned with this masterpiece show called Diggin' in the Crates. He plays pre-millenial (<2000 year) music only - mostly from vinyl, tapes, CDs, and even 8-tracks from his collection. Sideshow's deep dive into rare groove and funk leaves a wake of wavy events, thicc waves of funk washing through your quandrant of the universe, renewing your faith in the glory of music. With a keen ear for hidden gems Sid curates a sonic experience that transcends the boundaries of time and genre. One of the standout features of the show is Sid's encyclopedic knowledge of music. Whether delving into the roots of classic hip-hop, unearthing rare funk tracks, or exploring the evolution of electronic beats, Sid fills in gaps of your music knowledge you didn't know you had. Sideshow Sid's 'Diggin' in the Crates' expertly crafted mixtapes are a must-listen for anyone passionate about rare groove.

His show is on CJSW and via podcast, or linked from various places. He's got a facebook page on which he links his shows and provides random and delightful posts on artists, sometimes with links to their music, and allows engagement with his audience. Each show is 2 hours and for my ears he somehow manages to hit homeruns with nearly every song - and they're songs I've never heard before, and, it seems, he's never played before. Decades of shows and virtually no repeated tracks (except best of a year shows) with every track a banger, massive massive respect!
